A rainy fair day

So much different than our last visit! But the grandparents were staying with us this weekend, so to the fair we went.

The good thing about a rainy fair day is that we alter our usual fair to-do list. Instead of focusing on the rides, we spend lots of time visiting the animals, the vendors (the grandparents are hot-tub shopping), watching events, and even checking out the very-crowded hobby hall.

The photo above was taken on the sky ride which is a favorite of my youngest. It was like pulling teeth to get him to go on it for the first time last year and now it is usually one of the first things he requests when we enter the fair.

As far as animal highlights, the piglets, born a week earlier, took the prize!

There was a young girl in the piglet area who was picking up the little squealers and letting people pet them.

So cute!

This was the last weekend of the fair, so until next year!

Awww. We’ll have to take you back to the Iowa State Fair some day: they have a farrowing display where you can actually see piglets (“hogs” if you’re a farmer) being birthed. Very educational! Oh yeah, don’t forget the 99% humidity and 90-degree temperatures – mid-August, you know.
