Choosing time

So, after I wrote yesterday’s post, I was almost immediately given two more opportunities to practice living in the moment and enjoying time with my boys (doesn’t it often happen that way?!).
Opportunity #1 – my first grader woke up sad, saying that he thinks about me during the school day, misses me a lot, and wants to come home to be with me. Was he trying to get out of going to school? Absolutely. But…the day was perfect for it – no one to pick up (from his class) in the morning, no one to take home after school…and our electricity was scheduled to be off from 9-3 (translated – no television or computer). We dropped his younger brother off at school, got a coffee and a hot chocolate, and then went home. We played games (UNO being a favorite!) and enjoyed uninterrupted time together – I loved it.
Opportunity #2 – my pre-kindergarten-er and I were once again deciding if it was worth it to drive back home before picking brother up at school at 3pm. There was definitely a lot “to-do” at home.
We decided to stay close to school and went to a nearby park and ended up at the conservatory.
The palms overhead made us feel like we were in a jungle.

The flowers were beautiful.
We thought this plant’s flowers truly fit its name. It’s a shrimp plant.
And the fish were fascinating.
Time well-spent.

I’m so glad you got some great time with your precious boys! Before we know it they’ll be grown up and not WANTING to spend time with us. These sure are precious years…
