Variety

I love the variety of beach habitats in our area! We can visit sandy beaches, rocky beaches, mud flats, etc.

Last weekend, we were invited to a “new” beach. The boys were quite excited, and they were not disappointed.

We arrived just a little before the low tide peaked, so we had some fun exploring before the tide came in (when it did come, it came in fast because of the narrow inlets!).

We found lots of moon snails. Here’s one all the way in its shell with its operculum closed tight.

This one tried in vain to get all of itself in its shell…maybe it’s time for a new shell!

We also saw quite a few crabs with brilliant colors!

Hermit crabs too.

The clam beds kept us on our toes, as we were often surprised by a spray of water!
