Weeds revisited

When I first began to take photographs, I found myself often focusing on patterns and details.

One look at my photographs today and you can tell I still do.

Remember the weed bouquets?  My most recent bouquet came in the form of a single dandelion.  My eldest son had been inspecting the gift closely before giving it to me (I saw pollen on his nose and his chin).        :-)

After he left, I thought about what I might see if I also inspected the dandelion as closely as he did (Brooke, why didn’t you tell me I had yellow on my nose!).

A dandelion really is beautifully patterned.  My favorite angle is focused on the backside of its petals at what I would have called the sepals.  But I did look them up and they are referred to as bracts.  The bracts are in two sections or “series.”  The ones closest to the petals remain erect until the seeds are mature, and the outer bracts “flex” downward to release the seeds.

Any recommendations on a good macro lens?

Have a great weekend!
