Zoo highlights

My youngest son had a field trip to the zoo recently. The weather was not good – lots of rain and wind – but we spent a bit of time indoors. The trip focused on marine mammals (favorites of mine), so I was just as excited as my son!
First, there was the car ride with 4 5-to-6-year-old boys.
When we arrived at our destination, we were ushered into an education room where the students reviewed what they knew about marine mammals and then participated in fun activities such as dressing like a marine mammal (i.e. blubber, fins/flippers, etc.) and measuring the lengths of certain whales. Near the end of the session, the students were able to closely examine many marine mammals artifacts, such as this polar bear skull.

This is baleen from a gray whale.
Then we went out in the rain to see the real deal (the walruses were quite entertaining).
Before I knew it, I was loading those 4 boys in my car again and heading back to school. I think fun was had by all.
