An 8-year-old boy

January 14th, 2009  |  Published in Everyday Life, Portraits  |  Leave a Response

My firstborn arrived Christmas Day 8 years ago.

This year we celebrated his birthday the day after Christmas, and he seemed to enjoy it despite the island-wide power outage (great thunder and lightning though!).

People watching

January 13th, 2009  |  Published in Portraits, Travel  |  Leave a Response

is a favorite beach activity!  The beach where we vacationed is popular with locals as well as tourists.  Needless to say it was lots of fun watching the people, the kids, and the dogs!

An ER visit and some “down” time

January 10th, 2009  |  Published in Everyday Life  |  3 Comments

So sorry for my blog absence these last few days! I thought I had some “down” time while on vacation, but apparently not enough! I visited the ER Wednesday evening for abdominal pain, nausea, fever (I thought maybe it was appendicitis), but the CT scan and the ultrasound results showed nothing abnormal. I was released around 10pm with a piece of paper reading “abdominal pain, uncertain cause.” I slept all day Thursday and got up this morning at 10am. I’m still feeling the pain (although it has lessened considerably) and I’m still not wanting to eat much. I had a doctor’s appointment this afternoon. He looked at all the ER test results, then pushed around on my abdomen a bit, but still couldn’t guess what might be going on.

I was awake enough today to have some reflection time (in line with those New Year’s resolutions!)…I’ll share more next week (betcha can’t wait for that one!). :-) I also have more vacation adventures and portrait sessions to share.

Since a post without photos isn’t as good as one with photos, here are a few of the flora at our vacation house.

Time together

January 7th, 2009  |  Published in Portraits, Travel  |  3 Comments

Like most boys, mine love to watch, imitate, and be with, men – their cousins, uncles, grandpas, and especially their dad.

In school this year, my youngest son was asked a few questions about his dad for an upcoming dad’s lunch. Here are his answers.

Christmas ’08

January 2nd, 2009  |  Published in Everyday Life  |  1 Comment

I know it already seems so long ago, but -

one of my favorite things about Christmas are gifts from my boys.

They are always so excited to give to them to me! :-)

2009

January 1st, 2009  |  Published in Everyday Life  |  3 Comments

Often the 31st of December sneaks up on me!

The days leading up to Christmas are a whirlwind. Celebrating Christmas and the birth of my eldest (he turned 8 this year!) are so good but the busyness of the day leaves little time for reflection. And the days following Christmas, well, they seem to be a blur too.
This year, however, I’ve been reflecting a bit (yes, I am still on a beach in Hawaii – maybe that’s why reflection seems to flow so naturally this year!). One catalyst to my reflection was dinner a few nights ago. My husband and I, along with my two nephews and my eldest nephew’s wife, went to a great local steakhouse. Much of our dinner conversation focused on life and how much longer we as individuals, we as the human race, will be on this earth (must have been the stiff mai tai

that started us down that road!).

Regardless of the conversation’s suspicious origins, it renewed within me a grateful heart and a sense of adventure and excitement for the “unknown” year(s) ahead. I am so thankful for each year that I’ve been blessed with so far! And I’ve been blessed by meeting so many of you this year as I started into photography as a business – thank you!

I’m beginning to hear the sounds of celebrating here, as the fireworks are kicking off. Maybe you’re off to celebrate too or maybe you’re in the midst of it. What have you been reflecting on as 2008 draws to a close?

Wishing you all Happy New Year!
