One year!

March 27th, 2009  |  Published in Everyday Life, Photography  |  2 Comments

My blog has been up for one year today!

When I began, I don’t think I really had a goal in mind (i.e. blogging for 2 years, 5 years), but one year done feels good.

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to you, my blog readers!

:-)

I think I’ll celebrate today.  I don’t know how or with whom, but I’ll let you know.

I thought this post might be a good opportunity to share with you another blog that I frequent.  This blog was one of the first ones I ever “stalked.”  MeRaKoh(and her husband Brian) capture amazing photographs and teach great workshops.  I love reading MeRa’s blog because her writing voice is engaging and I enjoy her photography lessons, tips, and how-tos.  MeRa, Brian and their two children are currently in Thailand (!), so I’m loving her posts and living vicariously through them (well, maybe I would skip the border run in yesterday’s post!).

And because posts are always better with photos, here’s a great end to my week -

both of my boys were V.I.P.s at school – one for his hard working attitude and the other for his kindness to others.

:-)

Have a great weekend!

Six and a half

My youngest was telling me a story.

I was trying to listen intently as the plot was a bit complicated, but I had a lot more fun just watching him.

Big brother excitement

March 24th, 2009  |  Published in Portraits  |  3 Comments

I had a fun photo session yesterday, and while I was backing up the photos last night, I came across this series.

This family came to me directly after a doctor’s visit where they were able to “see” the newest member of their family.  Justine wasn’t too sure how the appointment would go with Paul (2 years old) in tow, but she said he was enthralled by it all.

Apparently so, because when Justine pulled out the ultrasound pictures, this was Paul’s reaction

An afternoon walk

March 20th, 2009  |  Published in Everyday Life  |  1 Comment

One afternoon recently I went for a walk while my youngest was in school.  I put my small camera in my pocket and enjoyed the views.

Oral reports

March 18th, 2009  |  Published in Everyday Life  |  3 Comments

I did not like them one bit when I was in school!

I remember having to do lots of them in 3rd grade.  It didn’t matter how much I enjoyed reading the book I was reporting on.  Stand up straight, speak loudly and clearly (enunciate!), don’t rush, make eye contact, etc.  I remember the pit in my stomach while I waited for my turn at the front of the class.

Because of my experiences, I was surprised by my eldest’s recent oral report.  Yes, I know he is so much like my husband, but I was still surprised.

The assignment was a biography of his choosing.  After reading the book, he was to take notes on 3×5 index cards, and then, while in costume, share this person’s life details and accomplishments with his class.  Parents were invited to watch.  I hesitated, wondering if my presence would be more of a hindrance than a help.

It turns out that my presence was completely immaterial (other than providing help during the costume change).  He sauntered to the front of the class, cracked a joke (which he told me he was going to do, but I didn’t believe he would), and then gave his report – no big deal.

Confidence is good.

:-)

He chose to report on Neil Armstrong, so we had fun putting his costume together.  His dad suggested a hazardous-materials suit which they then “decorated.”
