At a school auction this past spring, I “won” a monthly flower arrangement for a year.
Flowers make me smile too.

With being sick for a week and a half, my eldest was thoroughly convinced he had missed our local fair. It’s one of our September traditions and we love it! This is the last weekend coming up, so we are looking forward to going.
My boys would say their favorite part of the fair is the rides. My favorite part? Fair food! Caramel apples, elephant ears, cow-chip cookies, BBQ, taffy, krusty pups, ice cream bars, burgers with tons of onions…and of course the famous fair scones. One of my first fair memories is eating scones with my grandparents – good eats and wonderful company!
While with Gracie over the weekend, I found out that she really likes fair scones too. As it turns out, Gracie’s mother also likes them and they had brought a few home from their recent fair visit.
Snack time.

I hope! My eldest woke up yesterday morning covered with a rash. It seems he’s allergic to the most recent round of antibiotics. Poor guy! We have another doctor’s appointment this afternoon – hopefully our last for awhile!
In other news – I had lots of fun with Gracie and her family on Saturday. The sun was shining and it was a bit windy - perfect for blowing bubbles.

We are cruising down that road and I am so grateful!
Beginning yesterday, my eldest was acting much more like himself. He was drawing, building, and creating (and very excited about this newly crafted sword).

yep, that’s what my 8-year old has.
The good news is that he is already 6 days into it and is no longer contagious. He is not needing quite as much motrin and he slept ALL night last night.
How do I know he’s really on the mend??
He’s now laughing when watching Looney Tunes.
He said food looked good when we were at the store this morning (he’s lost 5 pounds this week).
He’s talking fishing again.
Per his request, here are a few photos from our last 2 fishing trips.

These last few days have walloped us. We were at the doctor’s again this morning and now they think my eldest might have something else since the antibiotics don’t seem to be doing much (again). He had to get blood drawn, so now we’re waiting to hear…
During times like this, I can easily become myopic in my thinking as I focus on these past 6 days and fight a little fear about the next few. I’m glad to be home with my eldest, but I’m so sorry he’s in such pain and wish I could do something about it. I miss friends and activities (sad to miss 2 photo sessions this week too).
I’m starting to not feel so great myself, but before I head to join my eldest on the couch, I thought I’d post these (they make me smile).
Our living room furniture is in almost-constant flux, being rearranged for dinner parties, large meetings, etc. My boys take full advantage of this state of affairs. During those in-between times, they like to rearrange the furniture to fit their latest adventure. Just about 2 weeks ago, they made a pirate ship (again) and spent most of their waking (and sleeping) hours on it. Here they are hoisting the main sail.
