I don’t remember them getting the upper-hand so quickly last year, but this year they’ve stormed our gates already!
My eldest stayed home from school on Friday last week, complaining of a sore throat. My husband said he should go to school…my husband finally came clean with the fact that sore throats and the like were his absence m.o. while in elementary and middle school. Hm mm. I still kept our son home.
We had not slept well Thursday night and slept even worse Friday night. My eldest was up every 2-3 hours. I finally got up with him at 5 o’clock on Saturday morning at which time he began crying and ASKING for a shot to make his sore throat go away. Long story shorter – we went to the doctor and she said it was strep throat, gave us antibiotics (and the hope of recovery within 24 hours), and sent us home. Twenty-fours hours later nothing had changed, except that we were on the last dregs of our children’s motrin. Yesterday am, we were back in the doctor’s office. It was confirmed that the antibiotics did nothing and my son needed a different (and stronger) antibiotic.
I haven’t had strep throat for a long time, but watching my son, I remember it being quite painful. My son’s cheeks hurt too; the doctor said that sometimes the strep goes into the sinus cavities as well.

Poor guy!
He’ll stay home from school again today. Maybe we’ll both catch up on a little sleep!

I’m happy to report that yesterday was a better day.
I loved meeting this little one.

I’ll post more of her next week. Maybe over the weekend, her dad and mom will get a little more sleep?!
Have a great weekend!

Currently this word is on my black list.
Yesterday was much more difficult than I thought it would be. My youngest started first grade. Did you know that first grade is all day? Yep – I know I had heard it mentioned before, even experienced it at one time or another, but the realization of all day hadn’t hit home until yesterday.
Now I realize what that little pit in my stomach (I’d been feeling it since Sunday) was – sadness. I miss him! He’s been my almost constant companion for the past 6 years.
I spent most of yesterday (8:30 – 3 to be exact) with teary eyes, aimless shuffling of feet, and constant clock checks, accompanied by thoughts of “I wonder what he’s doing now?”
It’s bad, I know. I am assured by friends that it is only temporary. But that thought makes me sad too.
Growing up…it’s so hard on moms!
Here’s a quick photo taken before we left for school yesterday morning.

Just in case you might be worried about my mental state today – I’m heading to Seattle to photograph a newborn.
Yes, this could bring on a few more tears, but I’ll be occupied doing something that I love (almost as much as hanging out with my boys!).
Have a great Thursday!

It seems to be growing instead of shrinking.
I was laughing with my friend Melissa yesterday about how one “organizing” project leads to a second and to a third and so on until you end up with much more of a mess than when you began! Yesterday morning I thought I’d give myself 30 minutes to organize my kitchen desk area while trying to locate a journal. I found the journal (!) but then needed an item for the journal which I thought might be in a large pile of papers. So I went through that large pile of papers, making smaller piles – recycling, needs new home, needs immediate attention, etc. While putting the “needs new home” pile in the new homes, I found another organizing project that needed to be done. Two hours and 30 minutes later, I had created an additional 4 piles on my kitchen desk.
Needless to say, Hayden’s photos are not yet processed; but I did finish two CDs (on my to-do list – check!), one of which is for Ashley and Jessica. I like this series.
