A friend

There are times when I need a friend who won’t accept my “I’m fine.”

Yesterday was one of those times.  We were scheduled to meet over coffee at 9:30.  The last time we meant, she knew I was not fine.  She questioned me.  I tried my best to avoid spilling too much.  I think I was fairly successful, but knew I wouldn’t be the second time around.

She knows I love her.  I think she’ll smile when she reads that I wanted to reschedule yesterday morning.

There’s a proverb that reads A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

It’s often effortless and easy for me to be a friend when things are going well – when the sun is shining, when I have my stuff “together” and a friend has her stuff “together.”  But that really is only a small part of true friendship, isn’t it?  Most of it is spent in the trenches, interceding for one another, and sometimes just being there when stuff is really messy.

I’m glad I didn’t reschedule.
