An afternoon walk

One afternoon recently I went for a walk while my youngest was in school.  I put my small camera in my pocket and enjoyed the views.

When I’m looking at scenes like this one, a childhood wish comes back to me.  I grew up playing in and around Puget Sound, and I often thought how amazing it would be if all the water was somehow pushed away for a short while so that I could walk out and explore what is usually hidden beneath the surface.

Getting SCUBA certified while in college was great, and I’ll not complain (much) because it has gotten me out there exploring.  I do have this dislike of being cold and I’m not a fan of all the bulky gear.  I remember well one of my certification dives off the coast of California.  My diving partner and I miscalculated and ended up low on air on the outside of a large kelp bed.  We “kelp-crawled” all the way in to shore.  We were tired enough that we continued to “crawl” on our hands and knees once we reached the beach.  We stopped up the beach just beyond the surf and for a few moments we said nothing.  We then began laughing as we realized we were in the same predicament – neither one of us could stand up because we were so tired and our gear seemed ten times heavier than usual!

Sorry, no photo of that one!

:-)

But, I digress.  I think my crazy driving schedule this year has inhibited my walking a bit.  I miss it!  Even 20 minutes walking by the water does wonders for me.  Thanks for coming along!

Have a great weekend!
