Fishing for pinks

After being skunked the day before, a fishing party was eager to depart Sunday morning. I joined the boat since I didn’t want to miss any action should it occur.
Once we were where we thought chances were good, the down riggers were set and we waited. The boys and I counted passing jellyfish – there were lots of them. We also kept our eyes open for whales as we saw quite a few whale-watching boats in the distance. Maybe the whales were wanting salmon too.
It wasn’t too long before a down rigger popped. We all vied to be the first to spy the fish.
A nice pink salmon. Once you catch one, you want more. So we waited again.
Sometimes waiting is a bit boring, especially if you’ve already been on the water for a while, eaten only chips, peanuts, and Starbursts, and are not actually fishing with your own rod…
A second one takes the lure.
Still, more fish were wanted, so we waited a little while longer, but caught no more pinks. Instead we caught one flounder
and one true cod.
My boys definitely have the fishing bug. We got off the boat and all they wanted to do was fish the dock.
My boys are fishing again tonight. I think they’ll be mooching for pinks with their own rods so hopefully they’ll get in on the action a little more.
I hope your weekend is great, whatever you do.

Jim says “not bad for a rookie”! Nice fish, Jim has caught a couple of pinks off the beach on Vashon. Now he has also caught the “bug” seeing your pictures and off he goes…the neighbors love it when they see him coming up from the beach wondering which one of them are going to receive the catch of the day!!!!

Love you…
