Fishing trip

So my husband likes to fish.
He really has not fished locally for quite a while. We take our 2 boys out in the summer and they love it; but that is not the fishing he really enjoys.
When he found out we were going to Hawaii again, he booked a fishing trip with the same outfit he has used before and then talked my brother-in-law and my two nephews into going with him.
I would have LOVED to go out with them to document the trip and capture some shots of the wildlife (the birds, the sharks, the whales!), but I have no desire to be in 8-10 -? foot swells for an extended period of time! So I do the next best thing – meet the fishermen at the harbor upon their return.

Even my youngest got in on the trophy-holding action. He’s proudly displaying a pair of small yellow fin tuna.
Here’s a close-up of the tuna.
I love the “yellow fins”.
Look closely at the first few photos above. Do you see the small, circular wounds on a few of the fish? Those were made by a cookie cutter shark. Cookie cutter sharks are about 20 inches long and are considered parasites. It is thought that these sharks bite into their much larger prey and then rotate their bodies, creating the distinctive, circular cut that has given them their name. And much larger prey is right – from elephant seals to marlin, dolphin to blue whales – wow! I was really excited to see evidence of their existence firsthand as I’ve only read about them!
Before the 4 tired and hungry (but happy) fishermen left with their fish, the traditional delicacy was offered.
Here you see one of the boat crew with the mahi, retrieving the delicacy.
Any takers??
Nothing like a fish eyeball on an empty (and maybe a little sea-sick) stomach!
While still on the dock and waiting for a cooler and ice, we saw turtles!
So much fun (and this was just the harbor experience). Maybe next time…
Have a great weekend!
