Wanted…

a fish.

So, Monday was the first day of spring break – highly anticipated by all 3 of us!  We did make one venture in the car that day, but with a departure time of 12:50 and no set time-table, it was completely do-able.  We actually went down to school to feed Super Tadpole 2 who lives in the kindergarten classroom.  He, unlike S.T., does not have legs yet and still has a good appetite.  We began thinking that we should buy something to put in his tank so that as his legs began growing, he can get out of the water.  So, on our way home, we detoured to the local pet store.

We found a satisfactory strata for S.T.2 and then began looking at the turtles and the fish.  Turtles have been on our list for awhile and I, too, would love to get some.  Hopefully soon, but we have to plan well for such a big tank.  And I would love to have one or two nice aquariums.  My boys have had a few fish – “Nemo” (I think we secretly had 4 Nemos) and “Goldy.”

This being said, I was not ready to buy any fish on Monday.  Yes, we have empty fish tanks in the basement, but I still wasn’t ready…until the tears.  Oh my goodness, the tears began to flow freely when I said we were not buying a fish.  With the tears came some sobs and stories of Goldy.  Wow, he can certainly bring it on!  I’ll admit I was suckered!  I walked back to the betta fish display and looked at the prices.  The less-showy females cost less, so I told the boys they could only pick a female.  I thought this would be the deal-breaker as no other pets in our household are “allowed” to be female.  I was very surprised when my eldest (and the source of the tears) said “O.k. and you can pick which one, Mom.”

After buying one blue female betta and betta food and the frog strata, we got back in the car and headed home.  Our conversation on the way home bears repeating.

Mom, aren’t you glad to not be the only girl anymore?

Mom, why don’t you name her?

I decided on Super Girl (my one restriction from the boys was the necessity of super in the name).

So without further adieu, I introduce to you  Super Girl.

I love Betta’s…put a mirror up next to the tank so she can see her reflection and watch what she does! Or is it just the males that go all ballistic?

    Love to all the Duvals’

    :)
