Homework

This time it’s mine (although sometimes my 3rd grader’s homework feels like mine).
I periodically take classes to keep my teaching credential current. These days I usually take online classes, and I just started one this week.
A fun one.
Nature photography. My 1st photography passion.
My first assignment was to take three nature photos with each photo focusing in a particular detail. Oh, I do like details!
I had a little bit of time yesterday to venture into my backyard with my camera. I stopped first to visit our dog who is not doing well…he came home yesterday from the vet’s but went back again this morning for an ultrasound.
Those eyes tell me so much. Poor guy!
After I sat with him for a few minutes (while holding our other dog at bay – he’s such an attention hog), I started to walk outside when I noticed this moth.
I thought it might be fun to shoot down at him, so I focused on his left antennae and front legs. I preferred the shift in background color as I moved higher.
Here I played with composition a bit, not focusing on the moth specifically but rather his placement in the photo.
And this one, I just wanted the right antennae in focus so all other parts of him would nicely blur. I think his antennae looks a bit like a matchstick .
I finally walked outside and headed in the direction of a favorite ivy. I see it here and there, but it has special meaning to me because it grew so prolifically in my grandmother’s yard. When we first moved to our house, I made a trip back to the house my grandparents owned (it is currently used by a local college for student housing). I walked into the backyard with scissors in hand and took some cuttings. My plant is not as prolific as my grandma’s, but I love it because it’s hers.
A few other finds from my backyard -
Have a great weekend!

Great pics as usual. How is our little buddy doing, he doesn’t look very happy at all.
Give him a hug for me.
Love you
